Day 15, Part 1: Thursday, May 29th, 2008
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Calgary, Alberta

Saskatoon turns out to be a much more lively place than you might expect, but I pass on the opportunity to take advantage of any of its urban trappings and spend the night relaxing in my hotel room instead. I have only one more day left on the trip, and I've finally reached the point where I just want to get back home.

The next morning, I can't resist the temptation to take pictures of a couple of signs next to the hotel.

Maybe someday. But probably not.

Just north of Saskatoon are the twin towns of Battleford and North Battleford (the "Battlefords"), which I visit because I've seen a TV program on a museum there which is dedicated to a Native artist, Allen Sapp, who grew up in that area. The museum turns out to be far less interesting than the TV program, so I leave without any souvenirs or prints.

But, from its parking lot, I am able to take a picture of this freight train rolling through town.

I then later feel the urge to take the quintessential picture of a small-town Saskatchewan grain elevator.

This is as close as I get.

Just north of the tiny town of Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, this thing exists.

South of Kerrobert, I pass through a forest of oil wells and then stop for lunch at a Dairy Queen in the town of Kindersley ("Experience our energy!").

From there, I had west, with nothing but empty space between me and my final goal.
