Day 11, Part 1: Sunday, May 25th, 2008
Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Teal Lake, Wisconsin

Previous Home Next

The next day, I drive through the lakes and fields and small towns of northern Wisconsin to meet up with my sister and her family at their cabin in the woods, near the freshwater fishing hub of Hayward.

It only seems appropriate to me that the town of Spirit should be unincorporated.

There are dandelions *everywhere*, and I take a few pictures of them in honor of my depraved Father, who used to refer to them as "weeds" and would always attempt to eradicate them from our backyard when I was a child.

Halfway between Rhinelander and Teal Lake, I stop for a short walk up the Timms Hill Trail.

Which leads me past a lake in the woods...

To the highest point in Wisconsin.

They've put a tower on top of it, to make it even higher.

This is what it looks like from the top of the cheesehead state.
