Day 10, Part 2: Saturday, May 24th, 2008
Mackinaw City, Michigan to Rhinelander, Wisconsin
Down the hill from the Grand Hotel, I find a row of small, old fashioned churches. This one calls itself the "Little Stone Church", and is of the UCC persuasion. It's even descended from the Congregational church, like the one I grew up in.
There's a wedding going on there when I arrive.
A little further down the hill, I return to the shoreline, where everybody's taking the same pictures as me.
This kid was chasing seagulls around for about fifteen minutes. I failed to get a good picture of all the excitement.
This is a statue of Father Marquette--who was historically rather important around these parts, apparently--in front of Fort Mackinac up on top of the hill.
Evidently, there is not always a seagull sitting on top of his head.
When I get back to the mainland, I discover that there is a Memorial Day parade going on. The parade route actually blocks off the on-ramp to the freeway leading out of Mackinaw City, so I am temporarily trapped within the city limits. With nowhere to go for the next forty-five minutes, I decide to sit tight and take a few pictures of the parade as it passes me by.
These guys kept firing their guns in the noisiest way possible.
The combined marching band of both of the Sault Ste. Maries.
Eventually, I finally get to ride back over the bridge. It *is* pretty exciting.
