Day 15, Part 2: Saturday, May 6th, 2006
Fort Morgan, Colorado to Council Bluffs, Iowa

After finally coming face to face with all the glory that is Arthur County, I decide I need to visit mostly empty McPherson county--which is right next door, to the east--as well.

On the way between Arthur and Tryon, the seat of McPherson County, I become fascinated with the scraggly trees that seem to be native to this part of the country.

I even take a picture of one bushy tree, growing by a river, and then scan it in to my computer incorrectly when I get back home. I like the way my mistake looks so much that I've decided to keep it this way on the web page.

Call it the burning bush, if you want.

On the opposite side of the road from the burning bush is the entry way to somebody's ranch.

Once I get to the town of Tryon, I have a surprising amount of difficulty trying to figure out where the courthouse is. Eventually, I decide that this has to be it.

It looks like it was built recently, in 2005. They did a good job of writing the date in the sidewalk but they're still working on the sign, apparently.

A few miles down the road, I finally get the picture of the trees that I've been looking for.

I meet back up with the freeway--and another courthouse--in the town of North Platte.

There I say farewell to western adventures and return to the real world via the long, soporific highways of Nebraska.
