Day 14, Part 1: Friday, May 5th, 2006
Moab, Utah to Fort Morgan, Colorado

Before leaving Moab on Friday morning, I track down the Grand County courthouse and take a picture of myself in front of it.

There are supposed to be thunderstorms in the area, so I try to get an early start on the day's drive. I want to roll through a few backroads in southwestern Colorado--just to see what's there--and would rather be able to do it while it's still sunny.

On the way out of Moab, the sun breaks through a patch of clouds over the LaSal Mountains.

I say goodbye to the red rocks of the Canyonlands by taking a short side trip out to Looking Glass Rock.
I was inspired to go there a few years ago when I saw that this guy recommended it as America's finest campsite on his web page.

From Looking Glass Rock, I drive over the LaSal Mountains to Colorado's Paradox Valley.

In one last homage to Desert Solitaire, I drive through the isolated but cheerful towns of Paradox and Bedrock.
